I’ve been reading about everyone doing this “CVSing” thing so I figured I would try it myself. Every week, CVS runs sales that usually correspond with the coupons found in the Sunday paper. Also, by purchasing certain items that are marked with a yellow hang tag in the store, you can accumulate Extra Care Bucks or ECBs that you can use later on (they are good for one month). So there are many savings opportunities at CVS every week.
First thing you need to make sure you have joined the CVS Extra Care Club and make sure you take your key tag ID or your Extra Care card with you so the cashier can scan it. This is how they can keep track of the ECBs you can earn. My trip to CVS yesterday would have cost me roughly about $75. I walked out paying $54.81. Now that is a savings of a little over $20. But I earned $11.79 in ECBs that I can use within a month on anything at CVS. So that is a total savings of about $33. And I also got some free items. Let me show you what I purchased and what I earned.
These all are prices you get with the CVS card:
Tide detergent (liquid or powder) 5oz $4.97 plus I had a $1.00 coupon
Pampers jumbo pack $8.88 with a coupon for $1.50
Pampers wipes $2.99
Pop Tarts $1.79 (had a coupon for money off purchase of 2 boxes)
Dawn dish soap .88 plus my $.50 coupon so I got this for .38!!!
Listerine $3.99 plus my coupon
Sure deodorant BOGO (buy one, get one) $2.69
CVS batteries BOGO $3.79
They also offered these BOGO deals and I combined them with coupons from the paper:
Covergirl TruConcealor $7.49, Covergirl Clean Powder was free on their sale. Then I used a coupon from the paper that was also BOGO, so that took $5.49 off, plus they let me use another $1.00 off coupon so I got both these items for $1.00!
Revlon ColorStay Lip Gloss $9.97 BOGO, plus a $2 off coupon so I got 2 lip glosses for $7.97.
Now here are the ECB deals I got:
Colgate toothpaste $2.99. CVS then gives you ECBs for $2.00 so I got this tube for .99 and I had a $1.00 off coupon so I actually “made” a penny on this deal. And I can still use my ECBs later on.
Crest toothpaste $2.49. You earn $1.50 in ECBs and I had a .50 coupon.
Infants Advil $5.79. They then give you $5.79 in ECBs plus I had a $1.00 coupon that I found online.
I also found online a $2 off coupon for a $10 purchase at any CVS. CVS is also giving you a free item when you use your Extra Care card the in August. I received a coupon for a free CVS Brand Mouthwash. I also got a coupon for a free $25 CVS giftcard with a new or transferred prescription and a coupon for $4 off any Playskool purchase of $20 or more.
So for my first CVS trip, I think I did pretty good on the savings. I can’t wait to see next week’s sales paper and do it all again!
